The ancient Romans had an annual tradition known as 'Saturnalia' - it was celebrated with a sacrifice at the Temple of Saturn, in the Roman Forum, and a public banquet, followed by private gift-giving, continual partying, and a carnival atmosphere that overturned Roman social norms. This tradition continues today under a different name: Spring Break. And while the Romans expressed themselves through the epic poems of bards like Virgil, today's generation has something even more epic to share: memes.
